AfNTM Cycle 1 1st Episode : Casting Week

Supermodel Oluchi Onweagba heads back to the motherland in her search to find Africa’s Next Top Model. Her journey takes her to Kenya in the East, Ghana, and her birthplace, Nigeria in the West. She proceeds to travel to Mozambique, Angola, and ultimately South Africa. From the thousands of girls, she chooses the twelve radiant beauties who will move into the model home in Cape Town to compete for the title of Africa’s Next Model along with the lucrative modeling contract that will launch one of their careers. The winner walks home with a 1-year modelling contract with New York based modelling agency – DNA, a product endorsement deal as well as cash prize of $50,000.

Requirements : All applicants were required to be between 18-27 years old at the time they auditioned or applied for the show. Additional requirements stated that if a model was being represented by a modeling agency at the time she applied, she had to terminate that representation prior. Contestants from any country in Africa were encouraged to apply. The minimum height requirement was 170 cm, or 5'7.

Oluchi

With over a decade of experience in the fashion industry, there’s no denying of Oluchi Orlandi (nee Onweagba) is an African Fashion Icon. With a career that began with her winning M-Net’s Face of Africa in 1998 at the age of 17, she soon began gracing the covers of top fashion magazines such as Italian Vogue, serving as the face of brands like Victoria’s Secret and Gianfranco Ferre, and being shot by the world’s most renowned photographers, including Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein and Steven Meisel.

Josie Borain

  Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Josie Borain was officially recognised as the first South African Supermodel after securing dozens of international campaigns during her time in Paris and New York. By the end of her impressive fifteen year modeling career she had worked with the worlds biggest icons in the fashion industry such as Bruce Weber, Ralph Lauren, Steven Meisel, Calvin Klein, Irving Penn and Richard Avedon to name just a few. Her face has graced the covers of dozens of magazines, TV commercials and advertising campaigns including the most famous of all billboards in Times Square, New York.

Remi Adetiba
 Remi is a photographer and creative director based in New York City.
Before shooting the likes of our very own Oluchi, Remi was a fixture in the New York advertising industry, helping craft the online and offline identities of numerous international brands, including MTV, Amazon, Sony, Beefeater Gin, The Financial Times, Grooveshark, The Kanye West Foundation, Microsoft, Nivea, Seagram’s Gin, and W Hotels. It’s this decade-long experience in various facets of the New York media landscape that Remi brings to Africa’s Next Top Model. He brings not only a photographer’s eye, but a strong advertising pedigree to panel when he assesses each girl’s performance.
